Celebrating our achievements

We’re proud of what we’ve accomplished together thanks to the dedication of our team, supporters, and community. This page highlights the milestones, moments, and impact we’ve made along the way as we continue working towards a brighter future for those we support.

GSK Awards

We’re proud to share that Hamara was selected as one of the 2024 GSK IMPACT Award winners. This prestigious award recognises the vital work we do to tackle health inequalities and improve wellbeing in our community. It’s a testament to the dedication of our entire team and trustees.

30th Anniversary

In 2024, Hamara Healthy Living Centre proudly celebrated 30 years of community, growth, and impact. What began in 1994 as a small initiative supporting South Asian elders has grown into the largest ethnic minority charity in Yorkshire, rooted in Beeston and reaching communities across Leeds and beyond.

To mark this milestone, we held a special awards ceremony at Headingley AMT Stadium on November 22, honouring the people, partners, and organisations who have helped shape our journey. It was a night to reflect, to recognise, and to celebrate the strength and spirit of our community.

Watch the video to look back on three decades of Hamara and the difference we continue to make together.

PFA Awards

Hamara was honoured to be featured in the Professional Footballers’ Association’s commemorative book, 50 Years of the PFA Awards, which celebrates the evolution of football and highlights key progress in race, gender, and community cohesion over the past five decades.

Representatives from Hamara attended the book launch event ahead of the PFA’s star-studded 50th anniversary awards ceremony on August 29. The publication recognises Hamara’s journey from a single project supporting elderly South Asian residents to becoming one of Leeds’ most vital community charities, reaching over 100,000 people through diverse programmes in education, health, and wellbeing.

Our work in Leeds continues to grow, with plans underway for a new sports hall and community centre designed to promote physical activity and wellbeing among girls, older people, and adults with learning disabilities. The upcoming Cockburn Centre will be a new hub for community connection and support.
