Community Cafe

Community Cafe has been revamped to meet the demands of the

local community.  The Cafe is now open 4 days a week (Mon - Thur) and offers a wide variety of foods as part of its breakfast and dinner programmes which include jacket potatoes, sandwiches, traditional curries, fruit and even smoothies.

A weekly menu illustrates the dishes to be cooked per week and caters for both vegetarians and non vegetarians.

 

Healthy Eating & Healthy Living project background

The project is a user led initiative based on the suggestions made by our volunteers, service users and results from our informal consultations with the communities.  

Aims of the project  

  1. To raise the level of knowledge and awareness of health issues.
  2. To provide health information in a religious and culturally sensitive environment in relevent languages.
  3. To particularly focus on the risk factor of Coronary Heart Disesase and Diabetes which are the two main risk factors in the South Asian Community.
  4. To raise awareness for the importance of screening for particular forms of cancer.
  5. To raise awareness of the value of various forms of physical activity.
  6. To promote healthy eating and dietary habits by introducing improved food preparation methods.
  7. To encourage community participation and community involvement by targeting those individuals who were not taking part in community groups or centres.
  8. To establish links between the community, community groups and local health providers and social care services.
